Whether you are undertaking all the publishing tasks yourself or engaging professional help, this talk will increase your understanding of the book-making process, from formatting book pages and creating an engaging cover to obtaining and ISBN, registering with Library of Congress, and getting your book on the market. By the end of this presentation, attendees will a clear idea of how to take control of the publishing process. From editing to meta-data, there are decisions and options, and choosing the right path will help you launch a successful book. The session will provide the tools to find, evaluate and engage professional help, if needed, and will include a list of resources to help on the path to exceptional and affordable self-publishing.

Mastering Metadata – How to Create Effective Metadata to Enhance Your Book Marketing Power.

1:30 – 3:30 p.m.   $25.00 for members, $30.00 for guests ($35 for whole day)

In this session, we’ll have a hands-on experience in creating, evaluating and using metadata to assist your book sales. It’s really not a scary process: We’ll start with a look at the basic elements and work our way through the subtitles of key words, book description and more.

We’ll take an in-depth look at how to create back cover text, and participants are encouraged to submit book descriptions, back cover text, or key words in advance to evaluate in class, time permitting.

This will be a fun, lively session, and you’ll leave with a much better understanding of this vital part of book marketing strategy.
