Editing is not included in our boutique packages, because some of our clients have their own editors. If you’re one of them, we are thrilled! You can work with any editor you prefer, but, we strongly recommend having your manuscript edited before you start the publishing process. We begin preparing your text for editing and layout as soon as you send us your final copy of the manuscript. - Book preparation

Patricia Marshall – Owner of Luminare Press
Writer, editor, and publisher with a passion for helping authors produce the best books possible. She is a member of the Northwest Independent Editors Guild, Willamette Writers, and the Eugene Chamber of Commerce.
Claire Flint Last – Lead Designer
Accomplished graphic designer, illustrator, and fine art painter with more than twenty years of experience. She has executed design and illustration work for many high-profile clients.
Kim Harper Kennedy – Project and Operations Manager
She has a master’s degree in arts/non-profit management and museum studies from the University of Oregon. She spent fourteen years as a content and project manager for a local exhibit and architectural display company writing, developing, and managing hundreds of exhibits and displays for major institutions across the United States.
Sallie Vandagrift – Managing Editor
Sallie is an editor, writer, and teacher. Before joining the team at Luminare Press, she served on the editorial staff at Wipf & Stock Publishers and was the assistant editor and publicist at Slant Books. Sallie is the former program coordinator for Writers in the Schools through Wordcrafters in Eugene. She has a BA in English from the University of Oregon, where she studied fiction in the Kidd Creative Writing Program.
FAQ about the Publishing Packages
Any book that has consistent text flow, uninterrupted by images, charts, worksheets, lists, subheads, quotes, and/or other unusual text is considered a standard layout. This includes most novels and memoirs. Quotes or datelines at the beginning of chapters, scene breaks, use of italics, and section pages are not considered complex formats.
Most business books, workbooks, family memoirs or yearbooks, and all image-heavy books fall under complex formatting. Complex formatting requires us to apply multiple styles to sections of text and/or insert images or graphics among the text.
On average we are able to publish a finished manuscript within four to six months through the Boutique and Premium packages. The exact timing depends on the complexity of the project and if the author is able to provide all assets (complete manuscript, images, footnotes, index…) and review the files in the requested format in a timely manner.
We know that publishing is often not a linear process, that’s why a project manager is key to ensuring all parts keep moving forward. After we evaluate your project and you sign a contract, we’ll be able to give you an estimate on timing based on the complexity of the work and your goals.
You can easily and securely pay online, using any of the most common credit/debit cards. If for some reason you’re unable to complete the transaction online, you can mail us a check. The design process will begin once we have processed your payment.
Absolutely! You’ll have a level of flexibility that allows you to review your project and add elements as you need. We’ll be always ready to help you choose and understand the different options, with the pros and cons of each. Our goal is to guide any author toward a successful publication.
