A Commitment to Transparent, Human-Led Publishing
Effective Date: March 2026
Revised annually or as our practices change
1. Our Commitment to You
We believe that every book deserves the full measure of human creative attention—and that yours is no exception. This policy is designed to give you clear, honest insight into how we use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools within our workflow, where we deliberately choose not to use them, and how we protect your manuscript and intellectual property at every stage.
Our use of AI is limited, purposeful, and always subordinate to the judgment of our experienced publishing professionals. AI is one tool among a range of many we use and is never a replacement for the human craft at the heart of what we do.
2. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to all services we provide, including:
- Manuscript assessment and evaluation
- Manuscript development
- Editing (developmental, and line editing, copy editing, and proofreading)
- Cover design
- Interior layout and typesetting
- Publishing services
- Book marketing
- Project management and client communications
3. Where We Do NOT Use AI
We want to be unambiguous about the work that remains entirely human:
Writing & Content Creation
We do not use AI to write any portion of your book. Every word attributed to your manuscript is either your own or the product of our human editors and manuscript development specialists working in direct collaboration with you. We do not edit or publish work that is solely or substantially AI-derived.
Illustrations & Visual Art
We do not use AI-generated imagery in any form for cover art or interior illustrations. All visual art is created by human designers and artists.
Cover Design
Your cover is one of the most important marketing assets your book will ever have. All cover design is executed by our professional human designers, from initial concept through final file delivery.
Interior Layout & Typesetting
Interior layout and typesetting—the art of making your pages readable, beautiful, and print-ready—is handled exclusively by our human layout specialists. No AI tools are used in this process.
Copy Editing, Line Editing, & Proofreading
Mechanical and grammatical copy editing is performed by our human editors. Before we edit a manuscript, we may use spelling or grammar checks that are built into most text programs. We do not use AI tools for copy editing, proofreading, or any line-by-line correction of your text.
4. Where We May Use AI
AI tools can genuinely support our professionals when applied thoughtfully. The following describes the limited, supervised ways we may use AI in your project:
Interior Graphics or Charts/Tables
We may use AI to create unusual interior graphics, like specialized icons or other visual elements, or to format charts or tables.
Manuscript Review & Formatting
We may use AI tools to format the manuscript in preparation for editing and layout. This generally involves checking for formatting issues like double spaces, extra paragraph returns, or tabs. This process does not change wording or meaning of text.
Manuscript & Content Development Support
During the developmental phase of a project, we may use AI tools to assist our editors and development consultants—for example, to explore structural options, brainstorm chapter organization, identify thematic gaps, or generate discussion prompts for author consultations. Any AI-assisted developmental suggestions are reviewed, evaluated, and substantially reworked by a human professional before they are ever shared with you.
Structural & Section-Level Editing Assistance
For certain editing tasks—such as analyzing the flow of a chapter, evaluating pacing, or flagging areas of potential redundancy—we may use AI as a first-pass analytical tool. Our editors then apply their expertise to evaluate, revise, and refine any AI-assisted observations. AI is never the final voice on editorial decisions.
Project Management & Operations
We use AI tools within our internal project management systems to help coordinate timelines, organize workflows, draft internal communications, and manage administrative tasks. This use is entirely behind the scenes and does not affect the creative or editorial content of your book.
Book Marketing
We may use AI tools to brainstorm campaign ideas, generate suggestions for marketing copy, summarize sections for reviews, analyze suitability of marketing to a target audience, or for competitor analysis and research. Any AI-assisted work is reviewed, evaluated, and reworked by a human professional book marketer before it is ever shared with you.
5. Your Manuscript & Data Privacy
We take the privacy of your work seriously. Your manuscript is your intellectual property, and we treat it accordingly.
Manuscript Uploads
When working on your project, we may upload a manuscript—or sections of one—to AI-assisted tools for analysis or development support. We do this only as necessary and only with tools that operate under appropriate privacy protections.
Privacy Settings
All AI platforms we use are configured with privacy settings that prevent your manuscript content from being used to train AI models. We do not use consumer-facing AI tools with default data-sharing settings for any client manuscript work. Within the AI platforms we use, we select privacy settings that prevent your manuscript content from being used to train AI models or from being shared with other platform users
Confidentiality
Your manuscript content, personal information, and project details are held in strict confidence. Our team members with access to AI tools are trained on our data-handling policies and bound by confidentiality obligations. We do not share any private information about you or your project with any AI platform.
6. Human Oversight & Accountability
Every deliverable we provide to you—whether a developmental outline, a set of editorial notes, a chapter revision, a cover concept, or a marketing plan—is the work product of a human professional. That professional is responsible for quality and accuracy, regardless of any tools used in the process.
We do not hide behind AI. Our team stands behind everything we deliver to you, and our professionals are accountable for the judgment calls embedded in every recommendation, edit, and creative decision.
7. Transparency & Ongoing Communication
If the role of AI in your project ever expands beyond what is described in this policy, we will inform you in writing before proceeding. You will always have the opportunity to ask questions, request clarification, or adjust your preferences.
We are committed to reviewing and updating this policy as our tools and practices evolve. The current version will always be available to you upon request, and any material changes will be communicated to active clients directly.
8. Questions & Contact
If you have any questions about this policy or how AI may be used in your specific project, please reach out to your project manager or contact us directly. We welcome the conversation—transparency is not just a policy for us, it is a practice.
