Lewis Richard Luchs is a graduate of Beloit College (1957) and Seabury-Western Graduate School of Theology (1961). In l983, he successfully completed a graduate program in military strategy and international relations at the National War College in Washington, DC.
His passions include his wife Sharon, his sons and grandchildren, writing his books, playing the piano, classical music, long road bike rides, and the University of Oregon Insight Series. He is widely read in cultural anthropology, philosophy, and theology. Lewis is a restless searcher of the world’s wisdom traditions, in which he believes the keys to the ultimate human fulfillment are found.

In the memoir, Ulendo, author Lewis Richard Luchs recounts his experiences in Central Africa in the 1960s. Luchs bore witness to the formation of an independent Malawi. In his role as a young Anglican priest in charge of St George’s parish in Zamba, then the capital city of Malawi, he had the opportunity to observe the transition of a small African country into a member of the Commonwealth of Nations.
