The first crocus pushing bravely through the cold earth in spring, the exuberant catbird returning to his favorite tree in summer, a frosty morning walk in early autumn, snow on distant mountain tops in winter! Nature graces us with an infinity of inspirations that may be the source of poetry, which, like music, seek to express the ineffable experience—whether of the natural world or of our common human condition—and thus to share it.
The poems assembled in this volume have all appeared on the weekly blog, From the Moleskine under “The Carriage Lamp.” The blog was created many years ago by author W. Grey Champion, with his long-time, dear friend Anna collaborating. Their hope, in publishing this book, is to preserve the poems collected from the vagaries of existence in cyberspace.
